Anyone tried them? Thoughts on sound/intonation improvements? Worth the price?

This has been discussed numerous times. A good place to start would be to read some recent past threads. Use the search option to find them.

Both are well designed and work great. Clark's work is very highly regarded. The best way to know how it will work for you is to try it.

I don't know anything about the extensions. I like the barrels very much. Very focused, easily controlled sound. Whether they're worth the price depends on what you expect from them and whether or not they fill your needs. They are worth the price to me.

I use one on my Yamaha 681 effer and it seems to smooth the transition over the "break" and evens out the upper register a bit. I am told this accustical effect is more noticable on Buffett clarinets, not so much on Selmers or LeBlancs. I like mine and although the improvement is minimal, we effer players can use ALL THE HELP we can get--and Clark's extension definately makes playing the little monster easier.

Hi KTJ78 (Why don't people use names yet?)
I am a big fan of all Clark Fobes stuff. I use his mpcs, barrels and Eb extensions.
As I said to Clark years ago, "your Eb extension is the finest improvement to the instrument since it's invention!"
Buy one immediately, it improves your intonation and makes playing that tough little thing much easier.
Go for it!
Cheers,

The extensions don't fit Selmers, correct? An old thread said that, so I figure it's still true. If so, too bad since I can't afford to upgrade my Bundy (which actually doesn't sound too bad, and for the most part, I can play 'Sleigh Ride' in unison with 2 other clarinetists; the throat is a little testy though).

I purchased an extension from Clark Fobes and have loved it!

I play a vintage off-brand eefer (a Martin Freres Grand Prix which actually plays quite well), so even with measurement and after consulting Mr. Fobes himself, we weren't sure what would fit. So, he sent me both extensions (he makes one for Buffet and one for Selmer/Leblanc, I believe), and we selected the best choice (which still required a bit of sanding to fit properly). I simply dropped the one I didn't choose back into the mail to Mr. Fobes (who was a heck of a nice guy and very helpful and knowledgeable, btw)

The extension has made a noticeable improvement in both overall tone and intonation and I highly recommend them to anyone playing Eb clarinet.

Clark definitely makes Eb extensions for the older Selmer clarinets. He made me one for my Selmer 9 Eb (I might have been the first one he did it for) and after two tries mailing it back each time, he got the fit just right. So, I'm sure he now has the correct measurements to make one perfectly on the first try.

He also recently made me one for my R13 Eb (97xxx) and as others have said before it really does smooth out the transition going over the break as well as giving more resonance to the longer fingered notes (E/F. B/C).

I was given an Eb extension as a birthday present. In all honesty it makes only the tiniest difference to the resonance and intonation of my RC Prestige, to the extent that I probably wouldn't have bothered buying it if left to my own devices. However, an unexpected but very convenient benefit is the instrument now sits comfortably on a standard clarinet peg: I no longer bother to carry around a special one for the Eb!

I wonder whether he's experimented with extensions for Bb and A clarinets.

Somewhere I think I recall Clark saying that he has experimented on the bigger horns, but that it poses some other design or acoustical issues. I'll try to see if I can find info somewhere.
