I agree with Chris- NZ's biggest woodwind company brought several Kinder-klari into the country some years ago on my recommendation. Two ended up at a school i teach at. These were barely playable on arrival- other than poorly fitted keys/pads there were such things as... toneholes that were blocked off with plastic left over from the molding process...
These instruments needed considerable attention from the repair staff to get them into playing order, and did not age well.
Currently the vogue here is to use Amati C clarinets (the plastic bodied ones, not the wooden ones I've seen on internet auction sites), and they can actually be rented from the aforementioned store and are robustly built.

Given a decent mouthpiece and suitable reed strength I don't think an Eb should be much of a problem - the Lyons C clarinet/Nuvo Clarineo uses an Eb mouthpiece and is designed for kids.

I have an earlier hard rubber Kinder Klari, which had none of the problems mentioned by Donald. Build quality was quite good and the keywork was well made and fairly robust. Tone with a Rico m/p is a lot better than with the original. If you ever have to repad one you'll find that clarinet pads are too thick in the small pad positions, but oboe-sized pads are just right. Key ergonomics are much better than the Lyons C clarinet or Clarineo. It's not a substitute for a proper Eb but it would be playable by kids. I can't speak for the later ones, sounds like they may be a very different animal. Note!! If you wash the body in warm water it goes a rich chocolate brown. Don't ask how I know.
