I've just bought a used Buffet B-12 to have available as a backup instrument. I'm planning to put an adjustable thumb rest on it, with a ring to attach my Fhred support, but the deeper thumb rest won't fit in the molded case that came with the instrument. I want to get an inexpensive case for it, but hate to order something and have it not fit with the new thumb rest. Does anyone know if the Gator GL case or any of the Protec soft cases will fit? I've never seen one in person to know if the interiors are rigidly molded or if there's some flexibility for the deeper thumb rest.
Thanks!

I've had to modifiy all my clarinet cases, just so a moved thumb rest will fit perfectly. Some of the time I just have to massage the plastic or foam underneath to get it to break so that the new position works. Unfortunately, often it is nessecary to re-do the velvet lining and actually cut the foam underneath. I suspect you might have to do the same.

I think the innards of the B12 case are polystyrene, so use the handle of a screwdriver or hammer to deepen the impression in the lining so the thumbrest fits in there better (by applying increasing pressure - not by hitting it!).

I have a Pro-tec double case and I remember when I got my Festival A. It didn't "quite" fit into the case. Like stated above, the material in the Protec cases at least is durable that after repeated pushing and pressing it will mend into new shapes.
This actually happened to me with my tube of cork grease. I forgot once to put it back in the middle storage space and it got left in the case, and now I have a nice tube shaped indent in the top foam of my clarinet case : )
