I am trying to improve a problem on my R-13 A clarinet (one which I've come to believe might be common for this age/model of clarinet). The left clarion register gets increasingly sharper from G5 up to C6 (which is incredibly high).
It's been suggested that the bore of the clarinet is too wide, and a very tapered barrel might help this a little, but researching these barrels has left me a bit confused (with tapered and reverse tapered varieties, and little specific information on manufacturer's websites).
Can anyone suggest a suitable barrel I could try that might help this problem?

Allan Segal made one for me that works pretty well. I have an early Selmer 10G, but it's prone to the same kind of problem as the R-13

A Moenig barrel will also help this problem a lot. If the serial number of your clarinet is before 130,000 you probably have the short register tube that went into Buffet A clarinets before they changed to a much longer tube. The longer tubes after 130,000 helped bring the pitch down on the notes you mentioned, but it also sometimes introduced other problems. The reverse taper of the Moenig barrel helps bring the pitch down and also helps focus the sound.

Either a Moennig or Chadash barrel may help. Dr. Segal's barrels are good as well. He can make one custom to fit your needs.

I think my clarinet is around 15 years old although I don't know for sure - if it helps the serial no is 425075.

Yep. Some taper (reverse cone--wider at top, tighter at bottom) would help.
You will likely get a lot of suggestions. It has become a cottage industry, it seems.

All those mentioned are fine barrels but may not solve the problem at all. Even if one does it is likely to make something else go out of tune. Usually when a barrel alters one register it also alters another one so you really have to try out as many as possible and see if one type helps more that another. One other solution is to change the register tube, which may be the best solution just watch out for the throat Bb if you do. You need to go to someone that has several sizes to try, they're easy to pop out and replace for a tech that has several. The other thing to do, which I did with my old Buffet A and many others have as well, is to move the tube higher on the clarinet, get a longer thumb key and also try several different size tubes as well to help that problem as well as making the throat Bb good.
