 Clarinets at Music China Show

While on business, I had an opportunity to play some superb clarinets at the Music China show this week. It seems that we're in a new "golden age" of clarinets! There were several standouts, which include the new top end Backun clarinets, the Buffet "Divine", and some new instruments from Uebel which are highly competitive and will be entering the US market in the near future. An outstanding new Reform Boehm and single piece body French boehm instrument from Gao Clarinets (it accepts French style boehm mouthpieces) are great players as well. These horns all have unique qualities of sound and response and some are quite expensive, but it's great to have some wonderful options!
