Dear Folks,
I happened to catch the Yale Symphony Orchestra over the weekend and the program included the Artie Shaw clarinet concerto played by Yale undergrad Matthew Griffith (student of David Shiffrin). Mr. Griffith has quite an impressive resume already. However, what impressed me was the extraordinary musicianship and joy he expressed through his horn. In fact this was by far the best rendition of the Artie Shaw I've heard other than Arthur Arshawsky himself !!! Mr. Griffith not only had incredible technique but he also manifested the big band style with great aplomb.
I must add he is also a double major in computer science so he will most likely have a stellar career whichever way he decides to go. But I for one hope he continues with the clarinet.

Sorry, I'm not very techy. I think you're asking if there are any audio or video available of the concert? There were several cameras recording the event for the school but I am not sure how to access the recordings.

WOW, Matthew's playing was spectacular in high school !!!
Just from memory of the Yale concert, I recall much bigger silences from the orchestra on the sustained chords toward the end ........... I didn't much like that interpretation (sounded too empty).
Thanks for this posting William.

Congratulations, Matt! You sound terrific. Watching the video and hearing your performance made me very proud and nostalgic for my YSO days. Keep it up!

Greetings everyone,
It's been quite a wait, but the full video of Matthew Griffith's concert performance has been posted on YouTube here:
http://youtu.be/U5qffkSbJaM
The video is currently unlisted and accessible only by direct link at the moment, but the video should be made public and official soon.
The audio is also available on the orchestra's bandcamp:

Enjoy!
