 Der Freischütz Overture, Solo

Way back in 1962, I got to play the great clarinet solo from Weber's Overture to Der Freischütz with the Interlochen University Orchestra. It calls for your biggest "orchestral" tone. What a thrill!

There's an excellent performance from 1932 in somewhat dim sound with Weingartner and the Paris Symphony http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nw1ro2S2x8&feature=bf_next&list=PLD0A2B4C026137344.

The solo starts at 4:27. Does anyone recognize the clarinetist?

Ken Shaw

A terrific clip, and very clear. Dunno the clarinetist, who either has too many chins or a very weak embouchure---hard to tell. But he sounded OK.
Just thinking: Moyse was in this early 40's in that film, and my guess, from looking at the faces, is that very few players were born after 1900. Most were probably born between 1870 and 1895. Another time entirely.
