Hi all
Any suggestions for fingerings for the following tremolos?
(also attached if you prefer notation)
G5 - Bb5
G#4 - B4
G4 - B4

For the G and G# to B tremolos, experiment with the trill keys to find which one (or both together) gives the best pitched B - the top trill key is probably the best one. If the B is very slightly sharp, then that's better than it being flat.
Upper G-Bb - as I play full Boehms, this is a doddle as Bb can be played xox|ooo so it's done simply by trilling LH finger 2 only, but can only be done on clarinets with this mechanism fitted (and on Albert/simple, Oehler and German systems). Maybe fitting a Bis key to the LH2 ring key barrel will help - Stephen Fox offers these (scroll down to 'L1 "bis" touchpiece'):

Just to put another useful one in here - if you see an upper register E-G# tremolo, play the E as normal (xxx|xxo) and trill with LH finger 3 only (xx+|xxo).

G4 - B4: Use the top two side trill keys
G5 - Bb5: There is a 'trick' fingering which many players use: Curve your left-hand first finger so it presses down the small pad between the first and second rings while still covering the first hole.

Regarding G5 to Bb5 tremelo, GBK's trick works well if you practice a bit to get used to it. Another option I have turned to is the Runyon "bis key" device that may be added to any Bb or A clarinet. It makes it much easier to depress the Bb/Eb pad with the first finger, much like the same key common to all saxophones. By itself, it is very sharp, but for fast and furious fingers, it is a great alternative. I keep this Runyon device on my A clarinet and last used it when I played Peter & the Wolf.
