I started experimenting my Clark Fobes San Fransico mouthpiece, CF+ facing again. (length 17mm and 1.00mm tip opening) I like certain things about the mouthpiece but I'm not totally happy with the tone quality it's producing. I usually play with a V12 3.5, and I've experimented with some of the reeds Clark Fobes made a while back, also 3.5 (his french cut reeds, I believe.) Any suggestions on what strength reeds I should try, or way to approach the mouthpiece?

This is a pretty closed mouthpiece - the first thing I'd try is going up half a grade in reeds to a four & see if it makes the kind of difference you're looking for. With this mpc you can probably go to a five.

I am currently playing on the CF+ with the V12 3.5 plus and it plays great!

I'm playing on that same mouthpiece and using V12 3.5+ and really liking my sound with that set up. The facing definitely favors a bit harder reed (I had been using V12 4s)

I have been using this mouthpiece for years with a variety of reeds. I generally find it to be very flexible and reed friendly. Currently I use Rico Reserve Classic #4. I have also used Grand Concert Thick #4 and V12 #4. All work well, but I particularly like the Reserves.
