I just wanted to ask a simple question. I have looked at millions of old posts, but cannot exactly figure out something. What are the exact directions of making a homemade humidifer? Thanks for all the help!
Thanks,
Eb

I take an old pill bottle with a screw on-kidproof-self locking lid. Punch 4-5 holes through top. Take sponge & cut to size. Wet sponge inside the bottle. Put cap on. Place in case w/holes upright, avoiding water leakage into case. I have also heard that some people take a baggie & put wet paper towel inside & place in the auxillary compartment/empty area of case. This is much harder to measure in terms of amount of water being used.
It's not a good idea to over-hydrate the inside of a clarinet case --- regardless of method employed, too much water is bad. It will grow mold, etc.
Best,
mw

Pill bottle with sponge inside except I drilled about 12 holes in the sides. As long as the sponge isn't dripping wet, it doesn't matter how the bottle lies in the case.

I use a photo canister. Ask your local flower shop to give you a piece of the sponge they use to hold flower arrangements. You can shape it very easily and it holds moisture for ever.

I purchased Dumpit. A sheet to tell relative humidity by color came with it
and found no humidifier is necessary in Tokyo area in all seasons.
By the way, there seem many people to put in a fresh orange peel inside the
case as an instant humidifier.

And I will repeat, like a stuck gramophone record, that orange peel fumes may well disintegrate any polystyrene foam used in your case lining. If you squeeze some oil from an orange peel onto some foam you will see it 'vanish' before your eyes. Magic!

The makeup sponges that the ladies use work very well dampened and stuffed into a film canister
