This is probably the stupidest question ever, but I am being 100% serious here. The GEM swab I currently use is wonderful, but I wish it were bigger. Are swabs made for sax/bassoon/base clarinet bigger than the ones made for clarinet? Or are the strings just longer.

It's not a stupid question at all.
Sax swabs are bigger but if you try to use them, especially the ones that are designed to spread out to fill the bore, they are likely to catch on your register vent tube and may be difficult to remove. Even clarinet swabs occasionally get stuck there.
It's better to use the clarinet swab several times instead.

If the sax swab is the woolly, bottle-brush type, you should never use it for a clarinet. The wool rubs off and gets deposited in the tone holes. I agree with Hans.

The swab that comes with some new Buffet clarinets is really great, black in color, and apparently micro fiber. I just don't know where to buy one, however.
