I'm looking for an intermediate bass clarinet. The two that seem to get the most mention are the Yamaha 221II and the Selmer1430 LP, but I haven't seen a direct comparison of them. Does anyone have an opinion about how they compare? Are there other comparably priced bass clarinets that I should be considering?
thanks

Get the 221 and a great mouthpiece like a Grabner LB, and don't look back.

I agree with Merlin. Get a 221 and an artist quality mouthpiece and you are in business. My only concern is they tend to be a bit sharp. Don't be surprised if you have to pull out quite a bit.

I use a Borbeck mouthpiece on a 221. A very nice instrument. I pull out a good 1/4 inch.

Thanks to all. The Yamaha sounds like what I want.
