I have played in the Pendleton Round-Up Mounted Band for 27 years. Yes, we ride horses. I play clarinet and have at various times played bass drum (have nice horses) an cymbals (had a broken jaw).
This year we are way short on musicians, so my 15-year-old son, who has been practicing with us for fun, will ride in the next parade with us.We're breaking our 21+ years rule.
He plays alto sax but has a "new" beautiful 1930's Conn stencil that I won't let near a horse. Instead, he will play a 1915 Conn C Melody sax borrowed from a friend. We are transposing the music for him.
We sold his horse last year so he hasn't ridden in awhile, but I'm excited to have him along!
Any of you have a horse and want to join in?

That sounds like an AWESOME parade band. Would love to see pictures/video. I hope those horses are well trained and accustomed to the music!

I am sure you are proud of your son. Quite an accomplishment....not to mention everyone in the band who plays from a moving horse! Pendelton Oregon is great!
