Just a heads up for those of you who send students to get a copy of Baermann Third Division online from Amazon.com.

A company called "Nabu Press" is selling a blurry photocopied edition (from a library book with handwriting all over it) reduced down to 75% of the original for more than the original Carl Fischer publication. Unfortunately it's showing up as the top search result since it's the most recent version, and you have to click down on the "other versions" box to see the regular one.
I had a student show up with one today and it was useless. The staff lines aren't even visible on lots of the pages!
Avoid, avoid, avoid!! :( :( :(

Offset or engraved copies (of anything) are nearly always better-quality printings than "Print on Demand" copies. PODs are sometimes the only way to get self-published books. Also, for some off-copyright, antique titles, a POD from a good copy may be better than a messed-up vintage used copy. So I'm not condemning PODs outright -- but be aware that most search engines now, including Google, will allow users to eliminate PODs from the search. I think that's a good idea for something like Baermann that's easy to get as a new or lightly-used copy from a legitimate publisher.
