I have a Bundy with a lot of scratches like that ................supose I could get $400-$500 for it if I said it was an antique? Maybe I'll start at $3.

I can't believe it. I wonder if the high bidder mistyped the bid. $96 sounds too high let alone $960.

One of the remaining dot com millionaires?

At least Chris would clone more goodies from this.

Do you suppose these are a narcotic if finely ground?

Whoa, is there anything special at all about that mouthpiece? Was it played by someone famous or something absurd like that? I can't believe it...

Played by a famous person that never washed it or pulled a swab through it!

That is CRAZY. =)

With the miracles of modern technology, can we not create mouthpieces today that are as good as the greats of old? Yes, there is something to be said about the craftsmanship and the "touch" of each particular craftsman...but please! That mouthpiece sold for the price of a new R13!

Maybe there's some kind of a charity contest going on where the merchandise quality doesn't matter and the money goes to a worthy cause? My high school had auctions to raise money for field trips and special purchases that the school budget wouldn't cover, where we auctioned things that were basically worthless but comical. There have been a few things like that on eBay. I think it almost has to be something like that because I can't believe anybody is this much of a fool, let alone more than one person bidding it up.

The initials JTL on the ligature must stand for Jesus The Lord.

Hey, I can get rich off my old junker clarinet collection!

Considering the price it's probably not a musician who bought it LOL...

Wanna bet there are more of these in either the buyer or seller's basement?

For these kinda prices, it should play itself AND cook dinner.

here is some "JTL" for ya :

BTW: Mark Charette has looked up JTL for us before in the New Langwill Index. There was a young fellow here a few months back who had a pair of Clarinets from his Grandfather's Estate - Bb and A (really) old (1890-1910) Clarinets.

Wow!! I can't believe someone, anyone would pay that much for a mouthpiece that looks like that!

On the other hand, the clarinet that mw posted is one of the best looking of that vintage that I have seen on ebay.

Don't recognize any of the bidders over the $22 mark. Could there be something a little . . . . going on? Beats me.

There has to be a rat somewhere. This is not possible except if there's some kind of "funny" business behind the scenes. We should be on the lookout for some of these bidders selling Cheds in the near future. They could become the "Emu" of the music world. Hopefully they don't have to be fed and watered.

ronb --- I recognized a few of the bidders over $22 ... take a look at the list again ... "our" Sneezy members made bids!

I don't think this was a joke or scam. I also don't think there was a "rat". I don't know whatg thatg means ... are you referring to a "shill bidder". A shill bidder couldn't do this.
