The economy is so bad down here in South Florida that no music store has the available funds to purchase a selection of mid level clarinets for customers to sample. I've had a devil of a time finding any finer clarinets to play test. One store had a Bliss (used) but sold it before I realized that my old clarinet was beyond hope. Another store had a Yamaha 450 but couldn't afford a 650 to keep in stock. Another store has a 1987 Buffet R-13 that I'm still considering. I shudder to think how far north I must drive just to test some of the horns I'd like to sample. Of course I can order something nice from WWBW under the idea that I can return it if it doesn't pan out. I also feel a certain responsibility to keep these local merchants in business and at least one of them said they would match anyone's prices but could not afford to order it unless it was a sure sale. I guess it's clear I'm not back in NYC where there must be dozens of nice horns ready for sale. Hard times have taken their toll.
