Hardwood, the new wind quintet commissioned by ICA, the National Flute Association, International Double Reed Society, and International Horn Society, will be co-premiered at ICA by Konza Wind Quintet (the faculty wind quintet at Kansas State) on Sat., Aug. 4th at 4pm. There is a 3:30 pre-concert talk about the piece and JWQP.
JWQP is collaboration between ICA, IHS, NFA, and IDRS. Last year they held an international composition competition to commission a wind quintet to be premiered at the international conventions of each society this summer. I'm humbled to say that I was the Winner, and this is the resulting piece.
If anyone is interested in seeing/hearing the piece in advance, you can view or download the score and stream the audio online here:

Following the co-premiere at IDRS last week, Marc Fink (oboist and former President of IDRS), wrote: "Hardwood is a wonderful quintet and a very significant contribution to the woodwind quintet repertoire. ... I think that the piece is as difficult and as appealing as John Harbison's "Woodwind Quintet" (1980)."
It’s also being co-premiered at NFA by Imani Winds at the "Gala Concert" on Fri. Aug. 10th, should anyone be attending that.
If any of you can make it to either the ICA or NFA performance, please do introduce yourself; it would be a pleasure to meet you!
Sincerely,
Lansing McLoskey
