I was recently given a complimentary Bari brand synthetic reed. The strength was medium soft and it seemed quite a bit stiffer than a Legere 2 3/4. Actually it almost refused to vibrate at all. Are Bari reeds usually this stiff.

Hi! I tried Bari, Fibracell, Legere and Forestone (apart from V12 cane), IMO Both Legere and Forestone have a better response and tone than bari and Fibracell. For me bari doesen't have a good response so it makes one feel is harder and Fibracell is very buzzy, so i'd recomend you to keep with Legere, or you can try also Forestone (4 - 4,5), you may like it also.

I have a standard Bari and a Bari Star in Medium, and these things play out more stiffly than Vandoren Traditional 4.0 reeds I have on hand.
The Bari Star, to its credit, did develop a very pleasing, refined tone once I got it to vibrate. Someday I'll have to try sanding it down in an effort to make it usable.
