Would it be worth $40 if it were actually silver plated and not nickel plated? Honestly, I've bent more useful bass clarinet lyres myself. (Vice Grip and Hammer will do the trick.)

I can't believe the guy has that kind of nerve--or stupidity--whichever.

The stupidity would reside with the buyers of these things, not the seller! Seems to me, if he can make $40/each selling this junk, he's pretty bright!

Looking at the seller's other auctions, I can see why they charge those prices. He/she sells the standard set of knick-knacks to collectors - who, on average, pay more for things than you'd ever imagine. Perhaps there's a collector of "lyers" out there who just happens to need this one to complete a set ;^)

I don't think the intent is to sell to musicians!

"clarinets dont have valves" Maybe Charles Bay could invent a valve--one size fits all--easy on, easy--off that would eliminate swabbing forever and keep those Eb key holes from gurgling.

Who was it who first said, "There's a sucker born every minute?"

Per a webpage on P T Barnum which can be found at:

http://www.ringling.com/history/barnum/

"There is no proof that Phineas Taylor Barnum ever said "there's a sucker born every minute." He did, however, say that "every crowd has a silver lining," and acknowledged that "the public is wiser than many imagine."

Many mouthpiece purveyors want a mouthpiece like this so that they can take & copy its measurements & dimensions, not necessarily to own it or play it. On the other hand, I wouldn't rule out ownership as a viable reason.

... what is a lot of $$ to one person, isn't to another. We see that all the time at Christie's & Sotheby's.
