Buffet E11 Barrel always getting stuck

When i first got my instrument it seemed like the wood above the cork on the upper joint was too big and sometimes after having trouble getting my barrel off if I tried to put it back on it wouldn't even get past the wood tip. It eased up a little after months and the joint cracked and my music store sent it back to buffet and let me borrow another E11. I didn't have any problems with the temp but when i got mine back the barrel started to get stuck. I left it out over night and it wouldn't come apart. It seems like when I'm practicing for more than an hour the barrel always gets stuck. The cork is fine and I grease it but the wood is expanding too much and the barrel wont fit over it. I'm having this problem now and I have a camp rehearsal in the morning. I would hate to have to carry the joint and barrel around outside of my case tomorrow. Would anyone have any suggestions to getting the barrel off without cracking the joint?

My private teacher took a look at it and said it was definitely the wood expansion giving me problems. It slides right over the cork once it does get loose.

Thanks!

This is a known problem with E11's of recent manufacturer. Their QA was pretty poor for a while, and this was one of the results. If you bought it new then Buffet should fix it free, but if not a good tech can fix it for you quite easily.

Yes, the repair person will sand down the wood a little until it fits, a very common situation. If one is handy with one's hands one can do it in about five minutes. The cork is not the problem. The wood gets larger with warm up of the instrument and perhaps the moisture has an effect, also.

One of the directors of the camp actually managed to slowly pull it off and I noticed how it was stuck worse around the bottom of the barrel and top of the joint tendent. I still need to convince my music stores repair man that my notes are out of tune without the cork pad under the A key. They tried telling me it wouldn't effect it but it does. Hopefully they don't blame my cork. I've had the instrument for over a year now. When we got the joint replaced it was exactly 1 day over the 1 year factory warranty so they replaced it free.

Thanks again!
