 metal inverted ligature

I have been playing my oehler clarinet with a vandoren klassic. Its has a great tone and all but in orchestra it just doesnt allow me to project very well as my bonade on my boehm clarinet. i want to use my oehler for orchestra and would like to find something like the bonade inverted ligature that is compatible with the german mouthpiece. Ive seen videos of german clarinetists with them (for example ernst and daniel ottensamer, though idk what brand they are using) but i cant seem to find anything besides string and leather. Except on Thomann.de but the shipping cost is just ridiculous. Any suggestions? Any help at all will be very much appreciated!

I don't know how you feel about Rovner ligatures, but they offer several of their models for German clarinets. If it were me I would pick up a Rovner Versa V-1E, which is sized for Eb boehm or Bb German clarinets.

They are available from Woodwid Brasswind for $45. Alternatively you could try buying a Bonade Inverted for an Eb clarinet and see if that fits.

Well I have a rovner dark and I always felt it muffled the song a little too much but the vera looks like an intresting suggestion.

The Eb clarinet should project very well through. What kind of horn is it? German? I've been playing on an old Selmer Eb mouthpiece and no problem. I'm wondering if the German mouthpiece has too deep of a chamber or if the facing is restricting you. Maybe both. German facings are sometimes too long, yet the sound is really good.

FWIW I don't particularly like the Rovner Dark either but I love my Rovner Versa. I use them on both my soprano and my bass clarinets.

Yes i play on a Uebel 632. Marvelous sound even with the mouthpiece it came with. I play on Viotto L-5. Ill definitely try an Eb and see how it turns out.

Ill start with the Versa then :)

Have you tried a short piece of shoesstring, or a velcro band?

Yes I have tried string. It gave me similar results to the vandoreen kllassic except it takes longer to set up....and costs less! Except it doesn't come with a cool leather cap..

Try contacting

He makes a very good ligature in the Bonade style. I believe that he can customize the size to your needs.

You might like the BG Revelation for Eb clarinet as they seem to project well. A similarly made Chinese ligature is on the auction site for less than $10 which also works fine. Good luck!

Try my velcro one, described on comment of a couple years ago. . Or, try Luyben.

The only way you will know if one works better than the other is to try them. There simply is no other way for you. As much as I agree that different ligatures on different mouthpiece for different players do make a difference in tone and feel quality i don't think it will make a "big" difference in what you're looking for. Projection comes far more from the reed - mouthpiece combination and the way "you" project than a ligature. It can make a difference but just a little.
