The Clarinet BBoard

I don't personally play on Yamahas, but I have a student who is interested in purchasing an intermediate/pro clarinet at a reasonable price (still in high school).
The instrument I have found locally which he may be interested in is a Yamaha 450N, and I'm wondering what the BBoard thinks a reasonable price would be to pay for such an instrument. It's a 2004 with no cracks and was hardly played.
Any ideas would be much appreciated!

I'd say a fair price would be ~$600. Most seem to sell in the $400-$600 range on the auction site depending on condition. Since this one is local and you should be able to actually play test it a price near the top of that range seems reasonable.

Let me add that the 450N used in the $500-$600 price range and in good condition is much preferable to a new B12 or YCL-250.
I've had two students get used ones as their first instruments, and throwing on a Backun or Muncy Synthetic barrel on there really gave them a response and tonal capability equal to that of much more expensive clarinets.

I agree with the last comment completely. Even with the original barrel, it's a great instrument.

Thanks for the help everyone. The instrument is in incredible shape and was barely played, the wood and keywork is beautiful and looks brand new.
The best part? I offered $400 and he accepted... That's the deal of the century for me!

Congrats! That's a pretty good deal for a modern intermediate clarinet.
