I've owned a Super Revelation ligature for 10 years or more, but, because of various reasons, I didn't use it. And so, last night I got the idea to remove the parallel rails and install a piece of 1/8" thick leather. I carefully pulled the prongs that run up either side of the ligature with needle-nosed pliers. I used super glue, though contact, or pad cement would also work to attach the 1/4" wide piece of leather. Works great, with excellent resonance. R

So you converted your BG to a Rovner? It appears you like the modified version better than the original. Anything particularly notable about the difference?

I compared the response and sound to a rover dark, and the BG has a more open sound, less covered, and perhaps a bit brighter. This might be because a 1/8" thick piece of leather is quite stiff, and doesn't conform to the shape of the reed laterally. I don't think the ligature in its modified incarnation has lost anything from its original construction sound-wise, though having only the one, I can't do an A/B comparison. I do know that the reeds are no longer grooved from the rails, and I don't over tighten ligatures, and I can now remove/install the mp with the ligature on. All in all, I'm very pleased with the results, and the BG no longer sits in a drawer.
