 Pre-Goodman Rag

Hi all - it's been a while since ive been on here.

so like a Lamb to slaughter.... i'd like to show you a recording i did a few years ago. Be gentle with me!

Its a piece you dont hear very often, but back when I was in the Army Band The Royal Artillery in London a particular band director liked it enough to record it on a CD we did to acknowledge Sir Malcolm Arnolds 80th birthday.

hope you like it!

Very enjoyable, Ben. Your playing was wonderful and fitting for the piece. I was especially taken by the whops in the horns, though.

Not just great playing but I loved the photos in the video as well!

Thankyou both very much for your kind comments.

Bill, I thought the pictures might have been a bit cheesey but thought it would be better than staring at one image for 2 minutes. The photos of my clarinet were taken in a hotel room during a random gig this year. Thought they came out quite good so put them to use.

Thanks again, always daunting putting your own playing in a forum for discussion..

Nice playing, sound fits very well to this movement! I like your vibrato too. Still find this movement strange though. Is this live or studio?

Hi, thanks for your kind words!
it was a mobile studio recording in a town hall. It was a big boomy room so everything kinda bled into one another making it sound like it could have been live.
I recorded the Artie Shaw Concerto in the same Hall a few years later & that was hard to hear, especially with the drums!
Thanks for listening!

Great recording...I love this second concerto. It's a wonderful piece, no often played unfortunately. The 1st movement and the orchestration is wonderful to hear live.
