Clarinet with no markings

I was offered a clarinet for purchase. It was supposed to be a Selmer 1400B from 2006. It has no Selmer markings on the clarinet. It does have a serial number P0072306.

Did Selmer make clarinets without its name or model number in the 2000's?

The bell and upper joint on a Selmer 1400B will both have the Selmer USA logo stamped on them. The upper joint would also have "1400" stamped just below the selmer logo. Sounds like the one you were offered may be just a generic plastic clarinet of unknown (likely Chinese) origin.

I wouldn't suggest purchasing a student clarinet from an unknown manufacturer. If money is tight there are many places where you can purchase freshly overhauled used student clarinets made by the "Big 4". Clarinuts frequently has used Vito and Selmer USA clarinets in the <$200 range and they offer a trial period and a warranty. http://www.clarinuts.com/clarinuts/pages/ClarinetItems.asp

but I think the short answer is: no, not in the 2000s and not ever. I don't think Selmer has ever sold clarinets without the Selmer brand name prominently displayed.

Also, this is not a meek, inconspicuous little logo. It's big and bold and gold or golden yellow, and always has been. On every Selmer clarinet I've owned and seen, the Selmer logo is stamped onto the wood or plastic so strongly that it would be extremely unlikely for the brand name to get completely removed unless someone deliberately scrubbed it right off with an abrasive, and why would anybody do that to a respected brand name?

So I agree with SteveG: If it doesn't say Selmer, it isn't a Selmer.

But on Bundy clarinets the logo was just surface paint that often wears off completely.
