Hi,
So I am trying to get a Kooiman Maestro 2 thumb rest for clarinet (I've been using an old one of my teacher's and love it) but I can't seem to find any dealers in the US that carry it. I've done many google searches, and looked at all of the dealers on the Ton Kooiman website's list of USA dealers, but they all don't carry it.
Does anyone know where I could find it in the US? Has it been discontinued?

Thanks for replying, but I'm looking for the Kooiman Maestro II, not the Etude. I've checked all of those dealers and none of them seem to carry it!

It might be easier to just order one from an international dealer. I found it for sale at one dealer that provides worldwide shipping: http://www.thomann.de/gb/ton_kooiman_daumenhalter_maestro_2.htm
Seems absurdely expensive for a thumbrest (222 euros inc. VAT) which may explain why hardly any dealers stock it. I seem to recall WWBW stocked a very similar Kooiman thumbrest within the past couple of years at a similarly high price.

WWBW stopped stocking them at all. You can still find the page on their site but it says "sorry, we no longer carry this item."

I got one a few years back (though it was the Maestro 1 - same concept just uglier) and I think that it's worth every penny. The speed improvement in your hands is noticeable right away, the trick is getting used to the damn thing. I've had it for five years and I just finally feel like I got used to adjusting it (you either need help or a neck strap). I actually just modified mine, as the thumb plate never felt right to me. A added some pad leather and suede to the outside plus some felt under that. And, I must say that it is quite comfortable. Anyone know where you can buy extra's of the attachment plates?

Oh, and a quick interwebz search got me this. RGD Woodwinds -Kooiman Maestro 2 Damn, when I got mine it was $125 cheaper (that's a 50% price increase)... I will still buy another one though. As I've grown quite fond of the stupid thing and will want ones for my harmony clarinets when I get them, and I will get one for the oboe if I decide to pick it up seriously again (not likely, as the damn thing gave me 3 ear infections over the 3 years I played it seriously (F#@K back-pressure)). Also, have any of you doublers out there tried the Prima for the flute? If so, how does it compare with the thumbport.

Weiner music only stocks the cheaper "Etude 2" model for clarinet. There are a few retailers in the US carrying this model but none seem to stock the "Maestro 2" which sells for 5x as much and is the version the OP wants.
