 Guitar duo

Hello,

we have recently decided with my friend (a guitarist) to make a concert together. We are very interested in putting some clarinet and guitar duos on the programme. But i was just googling and didn't find any interesting sheets, because of many worthless results.

Do you have any tips? (I hope at least some free sheets? We are only a students at the music schools so we can't afford expensive sheets, because I am barely able to buy reeds:) )

Thank you for any response.

P.S.: Sorry for my bad english;)

There is an arrangement of Piazzolla's "Histoire du Tango" for clarinet and piano. You could use the clarinet part from that along with the original guitar part from the flute/guitar version. I think that would work quite nicely (although it's not free and the piece is quite technically demanding).

Also, when I googled "works for clarinet and guitar," I found a few sites that offered works for the combination, some of which looked pretty good from the available sample pages.

Free-scores.com has about 25 free pieces for clarinet and guitar, most of which are transcriptions of Classical period music. These could work well too if you are looking to save money.

Good luck on the concert!

Have you considered the Charlton "Caprice"? Reminds me of the theme from the movie, "Charade." Another work I like is Peter Schickele's "Windows." The Charlton piece is not in a baroque style and is quite different from the "guitar concerto" on YouTube. There is a performance of the Schickele (w/ flute instead of clarinet) at http://www.classicalarchives.com/work/292168.html

Best regards,
jnk

A friend and I are working on a similar project. We found little, but did run across a piece on Van Cott. We've not started working on it yet, so I can't say much about it....Serenata Svizzera by Heinrich Neumann. Here's a link: https://ssl.perfora.net/secure.vcisinc.com/myform.php

Contact The Lightwood Duo (http://www.lightwoodduo.com/). They've been gigging with this combination of instruments for the last two decades.

I've only been playing clarinet for a year (reading notes) and before that played guitar in pub bands (playing by ear). So, a year ago my suggestion would have been to pick some nice popular tunes, listen to them on YouTube, work out the chords and melody and go for it!

Suggestions that pop into my head today are Left Bank Two (Vision ON theme), Careless Whisper (George Michael), Girl from Ipanema, St Thomas (Sonny Rollins), Wave (Paul Desmond)

This would help with developing your ear and improving your arranging skills

I am really considering that Piazzola piece, friend of mine promised me to get the sheets. And I am trying to contact the lightwood duo.

Thank you all for responses

Best regards from Czech Republic :)
