I was wondering if all clarinets in a particular line has the same serial number. Example: do all R-13 clarinets have the same serial number? Because I seen a picture of a clarinet that I own, and the serial numbers on the clarinet in the picture and mine do no have the same number. Just wanted to know if I want ripped off, by purchasing something that I didn't.

Serial numbers are called serial numbers as they're a series of increasing numbers assigned to instruments as they're being made, so no two instruments from the same factory should share the same serial number.

The only numbers an instrument will share with like instruments is the specific model number given by the manufacturer to separate it from the various other models they make, so your R13 Bb is model number BC1131 as will be the next R13 Bb clarinet you'll see (although it's not actually stamped on the instrument) as they're the same model instrument.
With that in mind, an R13 A clarinet is model number BC1231, a Tosca Bb is BC1150L and an RC Bb is BC1111 - but each individual instrument made will carry its own unique serial number which will also allow you to find the year (and possibly the month) it was made.
All makers have their own system of serial numbers and model numbers. While it's very likely an identical serial number may be found on two or more clarinets from different makers (take any 4-, 5- or 6-figure number), they won't all be the same age.

If I remember correctly, isn't that the infamous (?) Buffet mistake of accidentally producing two R13's with the same serial number, so to distinguish the two clarinets they put a B prefix in front of one of them.

Actually closer to 200 of them, Glenn, dating from around 1981. I have one. I purchased it on eBay. Probably because of the odd serial number, I only had to pay $250. I learned about the error while trying to find out what I had. Entering any of the serial numbers (as usual, without the prefix) in the Buffet serial number look-up actually returns a list that includes two R13 Bbs. Because the listings are identical, it looks like a mistake in the serial number database -- but it isn't.

Hence the reason why I said "no two instruments from the same factory should share the same serial number" as there's bound to be the element of human error somewhere!

Hi, I have an older clarinet, plastic, purchased in the 70's that has some name on it but I can't read it but there is a crown above it. The number on several of the pieces is J05922, I have searched and searched but I can't find out the brand of clarinet.
Can anyone help?

Sorry I just noticed that it has the word King on the mouthpiece. I've been looking that up but still can't find anything on it.

The King logo has a large crown above the word "KING".
