 Alpine Symphony, Eb Clarinet
Author: JamesOrlandoGarcia

I have taken on the task of playing Eb for Strauss's Alpine Symphony. I'm lacking some creativity in terms of fingerings for certain high notes. I could use help from someone who has successfully tackled this beast.

In particular, A suitable fingering for gracing from a E at the top of the staff to the high G.

Also the section at 88 is particularly difficult as well.

Peter Hadcock's book of Eb clarinet excerpts has a great fingering chart with it. Can't remember offhand if he specifically address Alpine Symphony.

Play the G with TR xox xxo Eb key

Or TR xoo xxo

Or TR oxo xxo

You could probably add the RH sliver key to these to help if needed. Also see if using the C# key instead of the Eb key

I was just working on the Galper version of the Baermann studies, and he shows TR xoo 6 ooo 4 as a common choice for the high G. Haven't tried it on my eefer.

Yes, go for a G with lots of fingers down, better to have some resistance on the note, like Dave suggests

One high G fingering that works for me is oxo G#and Eb/ ooo Eb. This is especially useful in going from F# to G. I use that one in Til for the high G although xooG#/ oooEb works well too.

It is a fun piece. Enjoy.

Thanks guys. Right now I am having the best luck with over blowing C and this isn't too consistent.

The fingering chart I have on my website is not specifically for the Eb but many of them work very well on the Eb. Experiment with some combinations and see if one or another works well for you. ESP eddiesclarinet.com
