Hello,
How should the first movement of the Sonata in C Minor be played? It is entitled Allegro.
Thanks!!!!

This Allegro should not be taken any faster than what you can play it cleanly at with good sound and good articulation.

This is Baroque music transcribed for clarinet. Keep the tempo steady throughout the movement. I'm not sure what tempo mark you have for your edition but I would think something around Quarter note at 88 to 108 beats per minute could make this sound good.

Dynamics are important here. Make the phrases rise and fall, pay attention to everything in the music that is written on the paper.

Think of your piece as a journey, a picture that you are painting to be listened to. Whether you have a pianist or not, you must strive to not just play notes but to make music.

Good luck to you.

If you keep in mind that the translation of Allegro is "lively," you should do all right. You don't want it to drag but don't let it sound rushed either.
