Just what is the difference between an intermidiate clarinet, and a professional clarinet?

Intermediate clarinets are a lot lighter than pro clarinets too. The first chair in my band plays an E-13, intermediate Buffet, and sounds great. I play a Buffet R-13 and sound great. I don't think there really is a difference between pro and intermediate clarinets all except for cost and the weight of the instrument.

I have been the proud owner of my E-13 for the grand total of three weeks now and am absolutely smitten!Another customer was in the shop when I went in to try the clarinet and was trying to decide between this particular E-13 and an R-13,in the end although they liked the sound and general feel of my E-13 better they still went ahead and purchased the 'R',just they said because they thought they should.I however am not made of money and as a player of only a short time am more than happy with this great clarinet.(Also for the record I tried the Leblanc Esprit and the Yamaha CX.)

one difference i have found is that the keywork of proffesional instruments are easier to work with, the higher up the horn the better keywork. there are probably many differences though

Incredible differences at the VERY VERY top end. But it takes outstanding talent to take advantage of the differences. Sort of like putting a driving school instructor in a NASCAR; it would make NO difference at that level. So, top0end intermediate instruments are just fine....until later.
