 Penzel-Mueller clarinet
Author: Mike Rabe

I have a Bb clarinet marked Penzel-Mueller "Empire Model" Long Island City, N.Y. The serial number is H2241-B. I believe it to be from before the 1960's, when the company went out of business.
Is anyone familiar with this maker and model? Any guess as to it's age? Was it considered a professional or intermediate clarinet?

Thanks for any information anyone could provide.

At present I have 2 P M's, my first good cl , a 1920's vintage Full-Boehm [still plays well, goes a bit flat above top-of-staff G] and an Artist's Model 17/6, 1940's I believe seems to be good. They competed and lost out by not being "French" vs Selmer, Buffet and the aggressive LeBlanc in that time period, [strictly my opinion!]. Don
