LB210 Bliss clarinet and MoBa barrel
Author: way1236

I currently own an LB210 intermediate bliss clarinet. My parents don't have the money to buy me a new horn but I want something different. I was reading an article on Kessler music on how the MoBa Backun barrel makes a dramatic difference in tone and roundness of sound all over the instrument. Does anybody else have any opinions like this, or thinks it is worth it to purchase one of these barrels with an intermediate clarinet?
Thank you

From what I tested, the LB210 is a very very good clarinet. But I don't like the stock barrel it comes with.

When I had one, almost ANY barrel made it sound better. Doesn't have to be a MoBa backun barrel, but yes, a better barrel will really make it sing a lot better.

And yes, it's worth purchasing a good barrel for an intermediate clarinet. (which, IMO, this clarinet witha good barrel is a very high intermediate clarinet and should suffice for many things)

Well, when I had it, I tested a stock R13 barrel, a buffet festival barrel, a Levin-Martinelli barrel, a chadash barrel, a muncy wooden and a muncy synthetic barrel. Oh yeah, and an R13 greenline barrel. All of them sounded better than the stock barrel.

Go to a place, or find a place that will lend barrels on trial, and find one that tunes best and gets a good sound. I don't really have anything for or against backun barrels, but from what I understand, one of the reasons they are so popular is because of a (in my opinion) brilliant sales strategy. If you call and request it, they will usually send a BUNCH of barrels. This almost guarantees that you will find one that works very well with your clarinet. And therefore you will be able to be a walking advertisement for them. A much better chance of success than some company that will only allow you to try one or two at a time, or request you pay up front for EVERY one you try. It's a small thing, but it adds up to a very good chance of you finding something of THEIRS that you like.

So if you want to try a MoBa, contact backun directly and ask them what their barrel trial police is. I'm sure you'll end up finding a good one.

Thank you for all the wonderful help. I think I will check my local music store to see if they have any trials.

You should contact Backun Musical directly...odds are great that your local music store will not be able to help you at all with trialing a selection of Backun barrels.
