Just wondering if anyone has experimented with making a wooden bass clarinet neck? I've seen some curved barrels for the Schwenk und Seggelke basset clarinet which seem to be made from fusing 2 pieces of wood. I also wonder how one makes the curved piece at the top of the contrabassoon and whether a similar technique could be used for a bass neck?

Certainly could be done with the tools Wolf uses to make the lupophone (or lupophon, depending on whether you Google auf Deutsch or in English). I believe the consensus is that it would be heavy and fragile and not sound any better than a metal neck. Still, with the substantial market for custom barrels for (why do they call them soprano?) standard clarinets, one would assume a small potential market for custom bass clarinet necks.
