Great blog, thanks for posting. I believe this is relevant for orchestras the world over. Regardless of the auditioning process I think it would be fair to say that this is what orchestras are looking for. Attention to detail coupled with phrasing and a sense of line are more important than just getting the notes right.

Enlightening indeed. Although I can't help but think there is something in the earlier process that may accidentally weed out the ones you would have prefered at the final round.
There certainly are enough clarinet audition where you plow through 300 clarinetists at a pop and cannot find a suitable candidate even though the top 10 clarinetists are amongst them.
