 Rep suggestions

I've been trying to get together a good amount of repertoire under my belt. This summer I will really try to master everything I have, but I could use another piece or two to start learning.

I would like something new and challenging technically (relative to what I have listed).
Here are a few of what I currently have been in the process of learning:

Stravinsky 3 pieces
Debussy premiere rhapsody
Messager Solo concours

I've already done 3 of the Weber... don't really feel the love on those.
Always trying to perfect Mozart (yeah right)
I've done all mvmts of Poulenc Sonata. love that piece and will keep that on hand as well.

So hopefully you guys can give me a few ideas.
That would be great, thanks!

Brahms Eb or F Sonatas, Saint-Saens Sonata, Schubert Fantasie Pieces, Spohr Concerti... to name a few. Take a listen to some of the most standard clarinet rep and pick some pieces from there. Check out IMSLP also.

Hi, RachelB4

I actually have the same plan for this summer. I will start to study again the Messager's Solo, the Poulenc Sonata, and the Stravinsky as well. I have been thinking in learning the Nielsen Concerto and is something that you can start learning as well.

Another recommendation I can give are: (some of them aren't standard clarinet repertoire, but very cool pieces as well)

- Hindemith Sonata or Concerto
- Bozza Bucolique
- Widor Introdution et Rondo
- any of the Devienne Sonatas
- Copland Concerto
- Horowitz Sonatina

All of the above are very challenging both technically and musically.

I like questions like this. I sympathize with you about not feeling the love on Weber... here are some that I think are good music (as opposed to being just 'official clarinet pieces'):

-the Martinu sonatina
-the Castelnuovo-Tedesco sonata
-the Finzi concerto, bagatelles
-the Honegger sonata
-the Berg pieces

How about some Crusell or the Copland concerto?

Have Fun!
