My son has been assigned to the alto clarinet in woodwind ensemble - they gave him the instrument, a mouthpiece, three used, cracked reeds, and the music.
I've ordered new reeds for him but they haven't come in yet - is there anything else he can use in a pinch for tomorrow night's rehearsal?

Anything other than a reed? No...
A reed from an alto sax might sort of fit, or even a bass clarinet reed that's clipped. Try what you can get a hold of that is around the same size.

Alto saxophone reeds will work. Any music store selling reeds will have an abundance of them.

Alto Sax reeds will work. I personally like playing the alto clarinet. I use a Hite mouthpiece on it. Hite designed the mouthpiece for alto sax reeds which is nice becase there are so many more options of reeds fro sax than alto clarinet.

I use alto sax reeds on my alto clarinet (I'm an amateur, but I played alto in junior high school band, grew like that instrument and bought my own as an adult) because the sax reeds give me a better tone quality than I get with alto clarinet reeds. Different mouthpieces work better with different reeds, so your son's experience may not be the same as mine, but it'll be great for him that you've ordered the alto clarinet reeds and can get the alto sax reeds easily and quickly. This way he can try both types.
