I was looking around the Just for Winds site the other day and happened upon what appears to be a new case design from Wiseman, the "Extra Light' double clarinet case. It appears to be the Ultra-Light that is listed on the Wiseman site. Does anyone have any experience with one of these yet? Not that I need a new case right now, but they are significantly cheaper than the regular Wiseman cases and if they are as great as everyone appears to believe the original are, they might be worth it.

Presumably it tastes great and is also less filling.

Exterior - 20/10
Interior - nahh....
I got it, used it for couple day then returned it. Inside of the case, 2 barrels for each side (A, Bb) but if your barrels are Fatboy style, they won't fit. My RC A clarinet doesn't fit, there's a gap when you close the lid, but my CSGH Bb fits just fine. I don't know if its interior is the same in all the "ultralight" but I think it is, it should.
Enough room for 2 reed cases (rico vitalizer), swab, strap and that's it. If you willing to carry only one reed case (not recommended), you might be able to add one small metronome aswell. But if you already, normally, carry another bag, ignore what I just said.
You will have to put your music in the thin leather (nice) bag that wrap around the case. If you plan to carry more than 2 etude books along with some music, you will have a hard time wrap the bag around the case since it'll be too thick, but they have a solution for that situation though it won't look as cool!
Overall, lets be honest here, if you want a cool looking case and don't care much about your clarinets (all for the look, like I did) I would say you will love it. The leather is nice, and shoulder straps are strong and well designed, splendid great looking case for clarinet!!! But if you want opinion from one who owned it once, don't get it. Bam is cheaper, safer, same weight (to me), MORE room and your music and books will stay in good shape (not curling). You said it's cheaper, but it's still a lot more expensive than others which I think are much bette. Might look a little boring but, well....I'm back with my old friend Bam.
But then again, if you have money, get it, see it yourself like I did. You might like it or even love it. All the above is only what I think of the case. good luck!
(sorry for my super poor English)

Hi dann, thanks for your thoughts.
When I say cheaper, I mean less expensive than the other Wiseman cases. I know the bam cases are significantly cheaper (I use a double trekking currently). I've heard some great, reviews about the Wiseman cases, and I figured if this was perhaps as good as the original (just without all the frills) it might be worth it as the bam case is ultimately just too heavy for my back. I was thinking about one of the X-Light bam cases, but the Wisemans, as you said, do look really nice on the exterior.
Just a point of clarification though - did you try one of the Ultralight cases or one of the original double cases? As I said, I am really concerned about the weight on my back and I don't mind carrying an extra bag with a bit of sheet music and some reed cases, etc. if it means taking a little weight off (something I would have to do with the X-Light case anyways).

Dear charlesgordon,
I was talking about the new "Ultralight". I haven't tried the original, too expensive for me.
To get right to the point, the case is quite light by itself since the interior is made of some source of style foam? (I'm not sure what it call) But once I add clarinet(s), I couldn't feel the lightness, it just feels like a case with clarinet(s). I didn't mention that once I put it on my back, it kinda moves a little on my back, and when I walk fairly fast, it literally bounces on my back, so, I am not very sure if that will do any good to your back. If I really have to say something about the weight, I would say, yes, it's lighter than Bam trekking but I don't feel comfortable carrying it on my back. It's a tubular shape case, the touching surface between the case and my back is so little, feels really weird (or I'm just not used to it).
I hope this helps. Good luck!
