I've been trying to track down when my Evette Bb was made. I had been under the assumption that the Buffet serial number listing would cover this instrument as well, but Mark has recently informed me that this is not the case. Does anyone have information on this, or can tell me where to look? My serial number is B10157.
it says EVETTE Sponsored by Buffet, Paris France.

I don't know where Schreiber-built clarinet serial numbers are listed now (plastic and wooden Evette, B&H Regent II, Buffet B10, B12, E10 and E11 were made by Schreiber apart from the E11 France) - there used to be a serial number search engine on the B&H/The Music Group site but since the split of that group and Buffet going separate ways, the search engine also went down which was a shame.

But this is not a Schreiber-made instrument, Chris. This clarinet predates the move to Germany by quite a few years. The B-series, as near as I can tell, were probably made in the 1940s or 50s. Evettes weren't made in Germany until the late 1970s. According to Buffet advertising materials, the "Sponsored by..." Evettes were made in a separate factory in Paris (which may actually have been the Malerne factory, hence "Sponsored by..." or not) under the supervision of Buffet craftsmen. Pictures of the keywork might help date the instrument.
FWIW, as I recall, the search engine on the B&H site only included the D-series Evettes. The date given for D1 was 1960. I've never seen a serial number list for any earlier Buffet student-model clarinets.
Best regards,
jnk
