Hi I'm relatively new to the board, and I started to look around for mouthpiece topics
to see what MP's some of you guys are using and I noticed that the name Gregory
Smith came up often, and many people are very impressed with his mouthpieces.
So can any of you guys give me some info about His mouthpieces such as
(price, tone quality, projection e.t.c...),and if you own one how do you feel about it?? THANKS
THE NEW GIRL SARAH

Hello and welcome to the board! I own a Gregory Smith (facing style 1) and it's the best thing I've ever played on! It works very well with my Moennig barrel and R-13. I think it was about $175 to $200, but I could be mistaken. I think they are well worth it for the price. You just have to try them out yourself and see what works best.

If you look in the Sponsors section of this BB, Gregory Smith is near the top. You can look at his website and e-mail him for more information. He stops in here occasionally too!

I just got my Greg smith recently and you can get all the information on his website. I paid $200 for his Kasper model and it was well worth the money. He's a great guy to work with, so if your interested get him to sed you a couple to just try. Then you can decide. I, too, read a ton a great comments so I decided to try it and I was equally amazed. Try em and see what you think!

Here's another inferred compliment about Mr. Smith's mouthpieces . . . I've never seen a used one for sale. That says a lot. I, too, will probably take the plunge soon.

I imagine the GS mouthpieces are excellent, but i would just like to say, by way of balance, that Ed Pillinger of London makes very good mouthpieces. I play on both soprano and bass clarinet mouthpieces by Ed, and am very pleased with both. According to Ed's web page, Rossi likes them too.

graham:
would you tell his web page address?
Sarah:
As you read Greg's web page, his work is characterized IMHO:
1)he is a clarietist workng at CSO. Clarinetist knows clarinet better than
non-clarinetist especially when he is a pro.
2)He makes Chedeville style and Kasper style mouthpieces.
He recommended Chedeville style ones to those who have played Vandorens
M-13 sometime on this BBS. I bought both.
The blank comes from Zinner of Bavaria. This is very good!
However, as Greg posted once in this BBS, he changes not only the ouside
shape including table but also inside using special tools made by himself.
3)He also sells Chadash barrels adjusted the specific mouthpiece you decide to
choose. This combination will give you more something.
If you use smaller bore clarinet rather than Buffet's standard 0.574", you can
select 'A' type, which is of smaller bore. I bought this one for my Selmer
10S II(0.563"?).
4)He also sells a MORRE reed profiler. Morre is a famous reed now unavailable
and used by CSO clarinet section. This is a cutting tool to get MORRE profiles
for reeds with thick stock such as V12, Rico Grand-Select thick blank,
and provably Marca classic, and Alexander classic. Actually V12 and Alexanader
classic are shaped after MORRE reeds.
I got one and found this profiler enhances the reed vibration surely.
