All I know is that it is a Grade 6. I heard it played by a high school marching band once, and it was fantastic!

It's quite a piece. =) Though I definitely prefer the wind ensemble original to the "field" arrangements...and it's got one heck of a fun clarinet part.
Ron Nelson's "Rocky Point Holiday" is one of several "holiday" titled pieces that he's written (there's also "Savannah River Holiday" and "Sonoran Desert Holiday"). All of them are musical depictions of various places; this one in particular Ron wrote while *at* the Rocky Point resort in Rhode Island in 1969(which is now closed, btw). RPH was his first major work for wind band, commissioned by Frank Bencriscutto for the Univ. of Minnesota Concert Band's Russian tour.
I pulled this info from:

It's a fun piece. I had to opportunity to play an entire concert of his music at New England Intercollegiates a couple of years ago, including RPH, and it was all conducted by Ron Nelson.

Ron Nelson teaches or at least taught at Brown University. I played one of his early works years ago called Mayflower Overture. I hear he is an excellent organist.

The Dallas Wind Symphony has an excellent CD out with this piece on it. The CD is entitled Holidays and Epiphanies. Go to www.dws.org.
