A student of mine has a Carl Fischer clarinet which he bought used a long, long time ago. It appears to be in good mechanical condition, but plays very flat, even with my mouthpiece.
Does anyone have any knowledge to share about this brand.

Carl Fischer did not make clarinets. They contracted with various makers to put the Carl Fischer name on them. Sometimes the contract specified that only the Carl Fischer name could go on and other times both the maker's name and Carl Fischer's went on the instrument.
It is not known how many different companies they contracted with but they are known to have contracted with Buffet and with Prueffer. However it would not be usual for either of these to be very flat. Prueffers even tended to run rather sharp based on the one that I have. Is it possible that it has the wrong barrel?
