Hello everyone,
I play English bore clarinets and I am looking for someone who can ream out the bore of a glass mouthpiece. I know it would have to be done by hand, probably with a dowel rod and sandpaper. I haven't been able to find anyone who has done it or that would be willing to try. I talked to Jon Steward at Howarth in London and he said he's seen some glass mouthpieces that had been done, but never done one himself. So I know its possible! Thanks!

If your English-bore clarinet is a Boosey & Hawkes, note that David is well known on this forum for tuning and tone hole enhancements on B&H instruments. I have an 8-10 that was reworked by David, and it's a superb instrument--I feel truly privileged to own and play such a fine clarinet.

Let us know if this is even remotely possible. All that I've read about even the refacing of crystal makes it a hard substance on which to impose changes.
You may also contact Pillinger since they work with the large bore specs.

I am an amateur refacer and have done some crystal mouthpieces. Jason(Buster) gave me some tips. I bought a bead reamer for the rails....it is a small diamond file. You use water to help in the process. A half round file that one would use in normal hard rubber refacing chipped the rails pretty easily. The facing itself is pretty hard so i found i needed pretty aggressive paper to make any headway. I then smoothed it with finer paper.
