 Amazing tongue- Rudy Wiedoeft

A friend put on a compilation of '20s jazz today, all fairly unremarkable until I happened to hear these amazingly fast and fully-articulated runs on the saxophone on 'Down Home Blues'. I believe that was Benny Kroeger with the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, and a little research turned up this guy, Rudy Wiedoeft, showing off the same kind of chops:

How is he *doing* those articulations that fast? I never hear sax (or clarinet) playing like this these days... is he double tonguing on a really light setup maybe? It sounds so clean!
