i play bb clarinet. i have sheet music for a song in d minor, and my instructor told me to transpose normally to c, by doing 2 half steps, and then changing it to c minor. how do i do this, why, whats the formula to change scales, are scales and keys the same, how to convert scales, ect.

The clarinet plays a WHOLE step lower than written pitch. So if you have music that needs to be played in the SOUNDED key of d minor, you would have to play it one whole step UP to sound the right note. That would put you in e minor (one sharp).
