Ligature for Selmer HS** for Eb

I'm having trouble finding a conventional-type 2-screw ligature that will properly fit a German-cut Selmer HS** mouthpiece for Eb clarinet.

I'm not sure about the age of this mouthpiece. It was in the case with a no-name (therefore no useful serial number) clarinet that I bought at a flea market. The clarinet, which turns out not to be much good now that I've repadded it, is a conventional Boehm-keyed student-quality plastic instrument that matches Bundies in every respect except the lack of any manufacturer's logo.

The mouthpiece is another story. I get the impression it's a good one. Steuer German-cut reeds fit it and I've been able to shave down some other reeds for the skinny taper of the German-style lay. However, the diameter is slightly fatter than my other Eb soprano mouthpieces, just enough so that none of my ligatures quite fit. Tightening enough for the screws to grab chokes the reed too much. (My other eefer mouthpieces are French-cut.) All ligatures for Bb clarinet are considerably too large. Meanwhile, none of the local music stores carry ligature screws that will fit the original ligature, which was in the case but missing its screws. I've been using a piece of double-sided Velcro for a ligature, but although that's a great substitute for a real ligature with larger mouthpieces of unusual size, it's not wonderful on a mouthpiece as small as this one.

Looks as if I'm going to have to buy a ligature online, sight unseen. Does anyone use this style of mouthpiece and have a suggestion?

For a German mouthpiece, string is the best solution. If you aren't comfortable with that, take a standard Bb ligature and shape a piece of leather or cork to glue to the side opposite the reed.

I play a HS** vintage effer mpc and use a lig designed originally for a metal sop sax mpc. Perhaps that size lig would work for you.

William and Ken, thanks for the good ideas! I only have one soprano sax ligature (from the 1920s). It doesn't fit this eefer mouthpiece, but next time I'm going to a music store, I'll take the mouthpiece along and try soprano sax ligatures. Ken, it hadn't occurred to me to modify a Bb ligature, but I've got plenty of those lying around and I'll try that.

I have a front Bonade that is smaller than my inverted. I also have a Hite that is smaller than normal. They are among the smaller ligatures I have seen. A soprano sax ligature for a metal mouthpiece may work.

I recently won an old eeffer on the unnamed site and was wondering the same thing with regard to ligatures. I am hoping my Klassik will tighten up enough to be of use. It, apparently, has an old wooden mouthpiece, though there is a small chip in it.
