It seems that the Morrie Backun/ Leblanc relationship is over. Does anyone know what LeBlanc will be doing when they run out of the Backun designed clarinets?

This is old news. Unfortunately it appears that there simply won't be any Leblanc professional clarinets for the foreseeable future. There have been a few threads here discussing the situation and apparently there has been some talk of Leblanc re-issuing the Opus and Concerto models but no concrete evidence that this will actually happen.

Why can't leblanc just come.up with a good decent pro clarinet and stick with it like others major brands do? It just get me thinking how viable would be to purchase a leblanc clarinet that most likely will be discontinue. .

It seems to me that contractually LeBlanc should be ablt to continue producing the Backun Clarinets. As far as I know he only designed them for LeBlanc. If he manufactured them it would be a different story.

Yup. No way to know what the stipulations were, but he was producing them in --house.
That's why there was multi zillion dollar machines in the warehouse.
If you haven't seen Morries Manufacturing Plant, you've missed a Clarinet wonder of the world.
So, what would a smart business person do?
Now there is another company that is having their line of Clarinets made/designed by Backun. I just woke up, and am too tired to recall their name.

Stop by the Antiqua booth a Namm 2012 in Anaheim and play the Antiqua by Backun. I will be out there performing on this instrument. This instrument will surprise you when you play it and will surprise when you find what it costs.

It's my understand that Leblanc is now owned by Selmer. Are they still producing new clarinets with the Leblanc name?

it's a shame ... I'd like the option to purchase a Concerto or maybe an "LL" model ... or a Noblet 45!
Surely Selmer has people that can design cutting edge pro instruments.
I guess they just don't want to get in the pro horn rat race ...
Besides, there is an adequate array of great stuff available ... who needs another clarinet model? No, scratch that thought ... we must push the envelope with new design concepts!

Yea I remember that video! It was done at music china in the drum room and man it was so loud that I could barely hear myself. My AMT WS mic sounds so much better than that one. You play, you do the best you can and then it sticks to the web.

Paul Aviles ... Sorry, I really meant the United States operation of Selmer/Leblanc/Conn/Whatever. I'd like to see a totally pro horn designed and produced on this side of the pond ... apparently this has never or very rarely been the case.
I am sure Selmer Paris is well capable of such a feat. I've heard very good reports of the Signature and Recital. No dealers in this area that stock these instruments ... back in the 1960s, HS kids routinely owned top-shelve pro instruments ($400), but I doubt parents would/could spring for 5-8 grand nowadays ..
