 Buffet Bass Pivot Screws

I own a Buffet Prestige Bass model BC1193.AG which was manufactured in 1994 and has the low "C" vent on the lower joint. I have been attempting to obtain some small pivot screws for it to replace a couple of bent ones but have now been informed by Buffet they are no longer available due to the age of the horn. Attached is a photo of the my horn's pivots and what Buffet has sent.

The top pivot shown is the large size from my horn and is identical to that included in Buffet kits F13709 and F13714

The next pivot down is a small one from my horn. Its design is identical to the large pivot, just a smaller version. The small pivots on my horn are the same diameter and tread size as the newer versions Buffet has been sending, note that the threads on my pivot go almost to the screw head.

The third pivot is the one in kit F13714 and will not work in my horn due to the taper under the head and the plastic/nylon/teflon coating.

The fourth pivot is the one in kit F13709 and is identical to to the one in F13714 except the plastic coating in now black.

Do any of the techs out there know where I might obtain some of the proper small pivots for my instrument. If they cannot be obtained how would you replace the bent pivots? Would you attempt to replace the pillars with new ones of the proper design or drill out the old ones so the new pivots fit? Or, would you try to machine down the taper and plastic coating of the newly designed pivots so they could be used on my instrument?

A great teacher gives you answers to questions
you don't even know you should ask.

In what way do the new screws not work? If the thread the same pitch and diameter, when they reach the plastic sleeve, even using some force, they get stuck (i.e. don't turn and screw in anymore)? The plastic is suppose to crush from the threads and you should use some force. This is assuming the pitch and diameter of the threads are the same, it's hard to tell if they are from a photo.

Or is the problem that the thinner head allows the screws to be screwed in more, making the keys stuck? If that's the case, the plastic sleeve is actually suppose to hold the screw in place. It doesn't always work so great, so you can use weak thread locker to hold the screw in place. It is also possible to modify the screw to fit.

Are the small screws different from the normal ones on Buffet soprano clarinets? My guess is they are the same (they look similar) as one type of pivots Buffet have used for soprano clarinets. Buffet have used several differnet types of screws (i.e. different threads) and changed over the years. Can you or your repairer measure the pitch and diameter of the threads? There are suppliers who offer several types of screws, one of which might fit. If you know the threads' pitch and diameter you can verify before ordering.

If you really get stuck you can measure the threads (most importanly the pitch) and I can check if I have one that is the same. I can probably spare one. But a local repairer can probably order it for you.
