 HELP WITH OLD BUFFET!!!
Author: Matt S

Im a beginning clarinetist in 8th grade I have an old Kingston and an old Barclay. they are way to junky and I need an intermediate clarinet. My Band Director said I needed one because Ive made All County Band. So my prvt teacher has an old Buffet called an E 45. I know that the E series of clarinets for buffet is an intermediate series. But an E 45? Theres the E 13 E12 E11 and E10 I know that. But Oh well. I played on it with a Vandoren B 45 and I got a great tone and it has alot less resistance which helps me alot soo Im wondering how much an old used E 45 Buffet might cost? Have any ideas?
Thanx in advance Peaceness

Not exactly, but it sounds pretty good, and if your teacher recommends it, and you're comfortable with it, you're way ahead of many. I's grab it!

There is one on Ebay, and its description states that the E45 was a high end intermediate clarinet 7 years ago. Buy it Now price is $500.

Also, a search of this board gave the following info:

The Buffet E45 seems to be the equivalent of the current E11/E12. Maybe ten years ago or so, Buffet changed from the numbering system R13/C12/E45/E11/B12 to the current R13/E13/E12/E11/B12 system for their primary models. I don't know exactly when the change took place, but I have a C12 that's 12 or 13 years old. In a pamphlet describing the instruments from the older system, the E45 was listed as an intermediate model wooden horn. The E11 was described as a wooden horn for beginners.

I would have the nearest repair shop look the horn over, first.

I had an early, unpleasant experience with a teacher pushing gear on me.

Do be cautious taking equipment recommendations from someone selling second-hand items, they're motives may not be clear.

(Not that I know your instructor, mind you.)
