I ordered this knock off BG-type-ish ligature. Seems pretty decent, except the fact that it's bent so only the right rail is touching the reed.
Does anyone know how I can bend the ligature so I can get the left rail to touch as well? Trial and error isn't working too well for me right now...
Guess quality can come with expensive things...
Edit: Never mind, I've mostly fixed it. But lesson learned, you do get what you pay for.

I use needle-nose pliers -- perhaps two, one for each hand.
By the way, string, or a shoelace, costs next to nothing. I've gotten a lot more than my money's worth out of them. You use what works, or what can be made to work.

I like the shoelace idea, but i think it would take me too long to tie all the different single reeds. Rovner Dark still the best for me on all horns.

Wind the string ligature on an old mouthpiece with an old reed. Tuck the ends up neatly. Cover exterior surface of string carefully with silicone rubber. Slip off and tidy up when dry. Have used these for several years now and love them. Can try using any kind of string, wool, cotton or shoelace.

Did you purchase that ligature off of ebay? I recently stumbled across a mock BG selling for 4.99 on ebay and wondered if it actually played as decent as the real one.

Yes Rachel, I did. It was the one that looked like a BG silver revelation but with green string. I would absolutely not recommend buying one because the construction quality is poor. Only 1 rail touched, the ligature is slightly lopsided, and the string is too big which made the rails not even touch the reed (i ended up ripping off the piece of string). I only took the risk to buy this knock-off because it was so cheap.
After a lot of annoying adjustments, it's almost like it should be, and it does play pretty well. But then again, I don't find huge differences between ligatures, so in a way, every ligature is at least OK with me.
